LATA GOUVEIA & BAND
besides the Beaujolais Nouveau Celebration, this Thursday will still be a Thursday ;)))
after quickly becoming a real true friend, the man became also family ;)
it's with special joy we are happy to welcome the man with his musical ship again ;) he has also mentioned to me that this week's gig might be a bit of a special one as the crew is planning on rocking a little harder than usual :)
for those of you who haven't got the chance to get to know him yet here is a little information about our good friend:
Lata Gouveia started out in central London in the 1990's playing small folk clubs and open mike nights. His heroes were Bob Dylan, Neil Young, John Lee Hooker and a number of other great American songwriters and performers.
After a début CD produced by Paul Lennon in 1997 and sold by Rough Trade in London, Lata joined Pop/Rock band Atlantico as lead singer and main songwriter. For the next 10 years he worked in Pop, Rock and Reggae bands in the UK and in Portugal, touring in England, Wales, Portugal, Spain, Belgium and Scandinavia. One of his bands during this time (Lata Dog) had a high rotation radio single in Portugal in 2004.
In 2005, Lata returned to the UK and decided to go back to his roots. He began performing and recording as a solo acoustic artist and it was not long before one of his heroes (Rocky Frisco from the JJ Cale band) invited him to go to Tulsa, Oklahoma and learn from some legendary older musicians. For the next 3 years, Lata would play and record with the likes of Rocky Frisco, Steve Pryor (Commitments, Paul Butterfield), Tom Skinner, Randy Crouch and many others in Texas and Oklahoma. The album “Road US-75”, released on Texas label Captiva Records is testimony to the transformational forces at work in Lata's music at that time.
Lata has returned and settled in Luxembourg since 2010 and has become one of the masin figures of folk and country in the Duchy.
After shooting a musical road movie across Oklahoma last summer and currently in production, Lata is also currently working on a brand new album, recorded here in Luxembourg and we hope and are very much looking forward to see it out somewhere before the summer next year.
We simply just love him!
