LiquID JAZZ HOUSEBAND

featuring Riaz Khabirpour

JAZZ HOUSEBAND

Our monthly rendez-vous comes in a week early this month. Jeff Herr, Maxime Bender and Laurent Payfert have invited Riaz Khabirpour as special guest this time and we are much looking forward to this great line-up!

Riaz Khabirpour, born in 1979 in Heidelberg, had his first contact with music by his mother, who often sang and accompanied himself on the guitar. At the age of 14, Riaz grabbed the guitar himself and initially played mainly classical music. Later he discovered his fascination for jazz and improvised music. In 1999 he moved to Amsterdam , where he studied jazz guitar at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. He had lessons, inter alia, with the renowned guitarist Maarten van de Grintens and Jesse van Ruller. From 2002-2003 he was a member of the "National Youth Jazz Orchestra" under the direction of Peter Herbolzheimer .

2003, Riaz was admitted to the master 's program in Amsterdam. This allowed an exchange program in January 2006 with the SUNY Purchase College in New York, where he had a semester teaching with John Abercrombie. Since September 2006, Riaz lives in Köln as a guitarist and composer and is an active member of the local scene. He plays amongst others in the "Maxime Bender Group", the "Jens Böckamp Quartet" and vocal Guitar Duet "two-tone" with Esther Berlansky. Last year Riaz played concerts at international festivals such as the "Tremplin Jazz d'Avignon" and the "Leverkusen Jazz Days" and was involved in CD productions at home and abroad, in between others with the band "Noor Saz" from New York.

Throughout his still young career Riaz had the chance to play with musicians such as Michael Abene, Jim McNeely, Chris Higgins, David Binney, Erik Friedlander, Sven Schuster, St. Francis of Chossy, Natalio Sued, Robert Landfermann, Niels Klein, Jonas Burgwinkel, Dietmar Fuhr, Sebastian Sternal, Max von Mosch, Nils Tegen, Oliver Leicht and many others...
