J.J. HEGARTY

jj hegarty

"JJ Hegarty hails from the Lagan Valley in Donegal Ireland close to the border with Derry. In the 1970's the music scene was booming Ireland with country rock, blues, punk, show bands and traditional acts all vying for attention. Everyone who had an instrument wanted to get out there and express themselves. He got his first taste of this at the age of 16 with one of Donegal's best known show bands. When you got involved in the Show Band scene you basically moved from one Show Band to another and so he did, playing gigs north and sou...th of the country, one dance hall after another.

The punk scene had then come to life, it was big in Northern Ireland, as the Undertones were from Derry. He joined up with a punk band as the scene had taken over and pubs and clubs were now open to hard edge punk. This lasted several years but as he got older he wanted a change and ended up forming a band to write original material. They toured around Northern Ireland before JJ moved to Southern Ireland where he re-joined the Show Band scene.

In the early 90's JJ formed a blues band, The Bootleggers, who spent over a decade doing the circuit in Ireland.
Now, returning to Luxembourg by himself, the set is basically a collection of songs from that musical journey that he’s really liked and been influenced by. Including many different genres, blues, country rock etc.  “When I’m not singing, the guitar should.”"

For this special event night, we are happy to have set the man a hell of a back up back with Apollo Munyanshongore on the bass and Jeff Herr on drums! We are going to enjoy a great evening there! guaranteed!!!
