COLIJN BUIS

Colijn Buis is a dutch pianist, composer, arranger and teacher.

He studied piano (jazz and improvisation) at the Utrecht Conservatory with Bert van den Brink, Cor Bakker and Jeroen van Vliet. Colijn had masterclasses with a.o.: Louis van Dijk, Barry Harris, Fred Hersch, Brad Mehldau, Enrico Pieranunzi, John Taylor, Kenny Werner, and a week with Clare Fischer in Los Angeles.

The Colijn Buis Trio played for 7 years at the weekly “Utrecht LIVE Jam Session at Cees Place”, with Special Guests such as: Hans Mantel, John Engels, Thijs van Leer, Hans Dulfer, Denise Jannah - and many other top musicians from the Dutch & international pop- and jazzscene.

Next to that Colijn has played at all kinds of festivals, private and business parties, events, conferences, theatres and casinos - solo piano, duo with a.o. Thijs van Leer and Denise Jannah, trio, quartet to more extended line-ups like big bands and orchestras.
He has also worked with a large variety of choirs, a.o. Grootkoor Projekten Holland, and, conducted by Harold Lenselink, the Nationaal Jeugdkoor (Netherlands Youth Choir) and international youth choir Choeur Robert Schuman in Germany, France, Belgium and Luxembourg.

As a composer, Colijn won a.o. the Kunstanjer of the Prins Bernhard Culture Foundation Utrecht. His debute-CD Horizon (original compositions performed together with Jasper van Hulten, Sven Happel, Tom Beek and Thijs van Leer) sold already more than 1500 copies. Compositions by Colijn have been used as film music, and on The Netherlands national TV series. Colijn has performed his music in Belgium, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, NL and USA.

Colijn is also working as an arranger. He arranged the Mass 'Dona Nobis Pacem' composed by Thijs van Leer for choir, which was performed a.o. in the Cathedral of Reims, France.

As a teacher he has taught at the Utrecht Conservatory, SJU Jazzpodium, and also in-company and private lessons and workshops.
