LIGHTNIN BUG

We are really happy to welcome our good friends back in LiquID after quite awhile now...

No one would have ever thought that out there lies a torrid, feverish, virtually tropical Belgium. There, the Mississippi River has found its way, steamers sailing by, their huge waterwheels lashing waves against the banks. There, black ghosts wander about in vast deltas. There, avenues carry scents from the Gulf of Mexico, where the crazy brass bands rediscover the tones of the blues; reminding you of its wild electricity, creating mesmerizing African American music.

Lightnin' Bug already has many years of experience under the belt. Greg-les-cordes* is the singer and lead-guitarist of the band. He founded the band in 96. In 98, Bidon-la-basse** joined the band and in 2006, Axel Muller completed it. Lightnin' Bud then found its way and hit it big time. Don't forget Axel Muller, who was the drummer for a long time in one of the best bands on the Belgian blues scene; "Fred & The Healers"

It all began with the meeting of three crafty and competent bluesmen who knew and commanded the stage with ease. It was the kind of meeting that struck a balance and set their world on fire all at once. Ever since, their shared passions -- Magic Slim, Albert King, Albert Collins or Stevie Ray Vaughan -- have merged into one another, releasing highly creative energy. This year's concerts have attracted a great deal of attention (Messancy, Acosse, Liquid-Café, Luxemburg, Open-Air in Bulson (F), Bouillon, Blues'N Jazz Rallye in Luxemburg, Fêtes de Wallonie in Namur, etc.). Lightnin' Bug has developed its own repertoire, which is consistent, groovy, neat and thrilling. While under the sacred Blues wing, it combines Swing, Boogie, powerful shuffles, beautiful pieces, sophisticated and slow, with Funky and R&B spice.

Their first album, made up of 5 songs, "Landing On The Blues Ground" shows evidence of the band's ambitions: to find their place on the blues scene and to offer an undeniable "blues spirit" through quality compositions and striking performances. The lead-guitarist is sophisticated, sensitive, yet heartrending, incisive, bright and full of life. The drummer is precise, sharp and vigorous. And they have an inordinate love for the blues. Three good reasons for thinking Lightnin' Bug is heading for something big. Three good reasons to convince you something is under way. "Landing On The Blues Ground" is Lightnin' Bug Air Blues Company's very first plane, made by hand in three days, live from the studio. Its engine singing and droning, its air screw humming and spinning, it flies smoothly thanks to the Dada studio. We don't know how to thank them, especially sound engineer Peter Soldan, for its perfect pitch.
