THE RHUMBA KINGS

A little out of our typical Thursday night program, we are happy to welcome this awesome kick-ass rockabilly band this week!

In 2001, British artist MARK SPREX, a well known drummer and double bass player, moved over to Belgium. Originally from Weymouth, England, Mark is a musician since childhood and has been a professional musician for over 25 years. Known as the original drummer of 'THE HOUSEROCKERS' and as stand-in drummer and bassist for 'THE PLAYBOYS'. Over the years both on the 'Rockin'-Scene' and in the 'Mainstream' music fields, he has worked with many other top-rated bands and famous faces such as Toby Tomanov (drummer of 'PRIMAL SCREAM'). In the early period of 'THE RHUMBA KINGS, Mark also often did session work at 'Hemsby Rock'n'roll Weekenders', 'Americana International Festival' and 'The Rockers Reunion', backing stars like Ray Campi, Janis Martin, Dale Hawkins, Rip Masters, legendary "SUN" recording artist Sonny Burgess, Graham Fenton from 'Matchbox', Bloodshot Bill, British 60's rocker Tommy Bruce ... just to name a few!

As from end 2011 Mark is working for the organisation of UK's famous 'Hemsby Rock'n'Roll Weekender' festival, as the Hemsby - House Band Leader, which includes working for certain acts at 'The Rockers Reunion' and 'Americana International Festival' in the UK. Other artists to Mark's working credit as a session artist are: Gene Summers, Robin Luke, Lee Dresser, Al Ferrier, Jimmy Cavallo, Marcel Riesco, Sonny Burgess, Rosie Flores, King Size Taylor, Ray Campi, Willie Craig, Travis LeDoyt, Al Hendrix, Art Adams, Billy Adams, Jimmy Lee Maslon, Mike Waggoner, James Intveld, John Lewis, Mark Pennington (Caravans), Steve Hooker .. and many more!!

To date Mark has recorded well over 20 albums with various bands and artists, appeared on prime-time television, has credits in several books, appeared in numerous magazines and publishings etc... He has toured and entertained relentlessly and endlessly since 1988.

'THE RHUMBA KINGS' got formed by Mark in 2002 with him taking centre stage as front man, singer and double bassist. Their live show is always very dynamic, high-energy, and unpredictable ... and though the band has changed personnel over the years, they've all been top-notch musicians and great guys working alongside with Mark.

If you want to give them a 'label' then 'THE RHUMBA KINGS' are simply and proudly a ROCK 'N' ROLL band!! 
Aside from 'THE RHUMBA KINGS', Mark also has another full-time UK-based project 'SPREX MAFIA' ... As well as various 'side-projects' including; 'MARK AND THE SLUM DOGS', 'GREYSTONE JAX' ...
