GUILLAUME CHERPITEL
JAZZ & SOUL TRIO
guillaume cherpitel started music and classical piano at the age of 6. after a period of discovery and learning other instruments (western african percussions with mammary keita and issa dembelé, guitar ...), he is refocusing on the piano...
with tagada (vocal funk-jazz), he won the first prize at the festival Rock-Lycée in 2000 with a few home compositions. with kabongo (salsa), he won the first prize at the inter-college festival Ramdam in 2001.
In 2003 he joined the jazz department at the conservatory of nancy and graduated in 2009. in the mean time he had the chance to meet and play with many musicians from very different backgrounds and various cultures.
he's as much influenced by jazz as by classical music, or traditional music from Africa, the Eastern countries, Latin America, the funk and everything that grooves. in January 2009 he produces his first album "Circle & Variations". with this album he ended up in the finals of Jazz in Vannes in 2009, before presenting those compositions at the Nancy Jazz Pulsations festival.
guillaume recently recorded a trio album "ghost notes" which includes compositions from alphonse anougna, a cameroonian bassist residing primarily in new-york - LiquID had the chance to welcome last decembre already ;)
